Thoughts about the gym...

Who needs headphones when you can pick the most interesting looking couple to secure a treadmill next to and spend your long run listening to their interesting (and sometimes disturbing) conversations?

Ladies, why put on that extra layer of make-up before heading to the gym when you're just going to sweat it off?! (Or maybe you're not planning to sweat it off... Touche.)

The most painful decision I have to make in my life has to be whether or not to step off the treadmill and run to the bathroom with high hopes of my treadmill still being available when I return.
I've yet to gather enough courage to try this. I've seen too many treadmills hijacked (with the other person's things still in the cupholders...) to dare take the risk.
Instead I end up with a side ache which makes me end my run early.

Let's not be afraid of the free weights, okay?
I'd like to see some girls, unaccompanied, working in that area filled with too much testosterone.

In other words, I'm so glad it's summer and I can do all of my exercising outdoors.
Nothing compares to runs through the avenues, swims in the pool, and bike rides through the city.
It's going to be hard to leave all this behind and head back to the gym once the snow hits.

I love this city.

That awkward moment when...

...your family doesn't understand your humor via group messages.

Better luck next time!

This weekend I...

Ate at Texas de Brazil for the first time

Watched a few absolutely amazing TED talks
(there's a blog post to come on that)

Sat outside on Saturday and did homework

Got a super bad sunburn, but only on the front half of my body... oops!

Have been fighting off a miserable cold

Avoided doing laundry like the plague

Got a new calling in church

And soaked up every second of our 75+ degree weather
(even if I felt awful because of this cold)

Is it Friday yet? :)

If I still had Myspace...

...my mood status would say "nostalgic."

I woke up to rain and a gloomy but beautiful sky this morning.
I walked outside and the air was warm with just a tinge of a chill.

I felt a longing for Washington.
Days of rain and tall, vibrant, fresh green trees.

I think I might be figuring out that I consider Washington home.
And boy, do I miss home.

Commercials

I'm not a big TV watcher, and even so, the shows I do watch are usually watched on Hulu.

But...

I somehow always seem to see the funniest commercials whenever I do happen to turn on the TV.

These ones quite literally make me laugh for a good few minutes after I watch them.

Enjoy :)

My brain on painkillers

One of my biggest fears is putting on slippers (with bare feet) and a spider being in there.

Healthy habits are so expensive. I have to fork out the money for floss and toothpaste, simply because I am OCD about it and I can't fall asleep without flossing and I can't leave the house without brushing.

The greatest invention in the world would be a standing bathtub. Picture a standalone shower, but with bathtub-like walls all around, and you have to climb up a ladder to get in or something. I don't know, I don't have all the details worked out, I just know it would be amazing. I don't like my bare bum sitting on the bottom of a bathtub.

Plain potato chips dipped in mustard is a sure way to satisfy one of my salty cravings.

Chocolate covered macadamia nuts make me swoon. Sometimes I look up how expensive flights to Hawaii are just so I could get some of the best in the world.

Painkillers have adverse effects on me. Hence this random blog post and wanting to go to bed at 6:00 in the evening. It's also messing with my gym schedule and my appetite. Who would voluntarily take these things?! On a side note, ultrasounds are kinda fun. Maybe I'll become an Ultrasound Tech. Or a Dental Hygienist. The possibilities are endless!

I really love herbal tea, especially when I get to drink it out of this super cute mug my sister got me from Anthropologie.

Happy Tuesday!

Finals Survival Kit...

All I need to survive finals...

1. A giant bag of chocolate covered raisins
2. Sixlets
3. A lot of money to spend on dinners
4. Ibuprofen
5. A whole lot of Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, Aaron Carter, Hilary Duff, and maybe even some Britney Spears.

Is it over yet?

 I couldn't stop laughing.
I think finals are officially making me lose it.

P.P.S Watch this video. It'll make your day.

Leap Year

Yesterday was a leap day.

I decided that since it's not actually a real day, and is just there to keep our 365 1/4 calendar caught up to the right amount every four years, it should be a catch up day for every person as well.

Day off for everyone!

How does that sound?
Sure does sound fabulous to me.

Lessons I've Learned Thus Far in 2012...

1. I am so so so so so unproductive when I have a day full of free time

2. You would think that I would finally get around to finishing Anna Karenina or get a head start on homework (I'm taking a two credit class online this Winter...), but instead, I prefer to sit around and watch Friends, The Big Bang Theory, The Office, and countless other things all day.

3. I don't do well just lounging around for more than one day. Just for the record, what I mentioned in #2 has only happened one day, and I was going insane by the end of the day. I wound up on the floor complaining to my mom that I was bored out of my mind and I need a job, or 25 credits of classes or something!

4. I hate job hunting. Especially when I'm only home until April and no one wants to hire me.

5. It's incredibly freeing to not have to do your makeup, hair, or get dressed in anything other than sweats. Unfortunately, after two days of this I itch to get dressed up and go out in public, looking half-decent.

Exhibit A: Melissa going insane

So it's apparent that I do much better when I'm busy, sleepless, and stressed.
Who would've guessed?!

So maybe today I'll get around to blogging about New Years Eve and Christmas in Rexburg with Jen and Eric.
Or maybe I'll get some homework done, go to the gym, and get some applications in at a few more temp. agencies

Wish me luck, because right now I'd rather watch another episode of The Office.

Help!

So long, 2011

It's been a good one.
But I'm excited for the year ahead.

First up on my New Year's resolutions:
1. Perfect cupcake baking and decorating
(all from scratch)

2. Finish Anna Karenina

And I'm sure I'll think of more throughout the evening...
I've never been big on resolutions :)

I'm off to a big New Years Eve party!
Sayonara, 2011!

Finals, Moving and Christmas

I'm lacking motivation for blogging.
For the past year and a half my motivation was keeping my dear mother up to date on my boring college life.
But now I'm living back at home.
I guess my motivation will have to shift to my sisters :)

So, here's a catch-up post:

1. Finals: I survived and pulled off all A's and a B+
I'm now officially done with my generals, and I will never again have to take a stupid science class, which has ruined my 4.0
2. I moved back home for winter semester (because it's my off track)
3. I'm looking for a job, preferably a live-in nanny job
4. Christmas is just around the corner, but it definitely doesn't feel like it. I was most excited that my mom and dad moved to Utah so I could actually have a white Christmas. I guess it's not happening this year
5. I'm thinking about doing a Project 365, Year Two.
Hmm....

That's about it.
Told you my life was boring :)

Drowning

You know those phases that we all go through, where every aspect of your life is demanding just a little too much from you?
I'm waist-deep in one of those phases right now, and I'm on my way to drowning.

School is demanding too much energy and brain power
Work is demanding too much time
I'm having trouble finding time to invest in my relationships
Church callings are stressing me out beyond belief

But don't worry, I'll survive.
"For after much tribulation come the blessings. Wherefore the day cometh that ye shall be crowned with much glory; the hour is not yet, but is nigh at hand."

That One Dreaded Question

Boy in class - "Where are you from?"
Me - "Um, I don't know."
Boy - "Well, where do your parents live at right now?"
Me - "They're moving this week from Washington to Utah."
Boy - "Oh.. So I guess you really don't know."

I can't even count how many times I have this conversation with people in the past three days.
Talk about an awkward start to a conversation.
I always decide that I'm just going to say Washington, or Illinois, and end it, but the question always catches me off guard, even though I know it's coming.

I guess I'm now technically from Utah.
Just like the majority of the population of this school.
That's right people, I'm from Utah, and yep, you guessed it..
I'm a Mormon :)

Right Now I'm Loving...

Getting in bed every night, utterly exhausted

Running and doing ab workouts (great stress reliever)

Facebook in Pirate language

Lucky Charms every morning, while doing my hair and listening to country

Speaking of country... country music,
more specifically, Crazy Girl by Eli Young Band

Falling asleep on my bedroom floor, under my desk as a result of printing millions of papers
(I keep my printer under my desk...)

My Child Development class. I literally LOVE it, and doing the homework

Funfetti frosting and FlipSides
Not together, of course...

And last but not least,
FOOTBALL SEASON!

Christmas in September

My mind is a little conflicted.

I hear Christmas music and I can't wait for the Holiday's.
I smell nutmeg and crave Egg Nog like no other mother.
I purchase a new pair of boots and am so excited to wear them along with scarves, gloves and coats.
I constantly look up Holiday recipes.... anything with peppermint or pumpkin.
I would kill for some of my mom's homemade divinity and carmels.

But...

I walk outside and soak up every ray of sun that hits my skin.
I get in my car and not being able to breathe due to the heat is one of my favorite things in the world.
I want to buy a new bathing suit and go swimming - a lot.
I want to wear dresses, not jeans.
I could go for anything grilled, especially with barbeque sauce.

Someone help me.

Dear Boys,

You have it so easy and you don't even know.

Here's my case:

Boy likes girl.
Boy asks girl on date.
Girl knows that boy likes girl.

Girl likes boy.
Girl sits around waiting for boy to ask girl on date.
Boy doesn't know that girl likes boy.

This is the one reason that I wish I wasn't such an old fashioned girl.
Unfortunately, I like to do things the traditional way :)

What a Nightmare

Last weekend I had three friends get married.
Three friends that graduated the same day that I did.

It's no surprise that last night I had a nightmare (quite literally...) about me getting married.

It was my wedding day and I woke up late.
My ex-boyfriend and his mother were coming to my wedding (what?!).
I didn't have my dress.
I didn't have my recommend from my bishop.
My ex-boyfriend and his mother planned a nightclub themed ceremony in the WalMart/Albertson's parking lot.
My best friend was laying on the couch watching TV instead of fixing this disaster of a wedding.
And as Cady Groves would say, "This is the part where I realize that I'm alone..."
Yeah, I had lost my groom.

It's a good thing I'm nowhere near marriage, because I'm already running in the opposite direction.

The Tale of the Car Wash

So today after work I had to run to the store.
On the way I saw the car wash and realized that it wasn't supposed to rain for a week
and I really, desperately, honestly needed a car wash.
So I did it and on the way out I realized that there were vacuums I could use for free.

I made a few mistakes throughout this whole process.

Mistake #1: I didn't realize that I was wearing a skirt until I was in the middle of the car wash
Mistake #2: I decided to vacuum out my car, while wearing said skirt
Mistake #3: I had to crouch down a little to vacuum out my lovely car, but didn't realize that there was some water on the pavement
Mistake #4: Letting my skirt touch the ground while I was vacuuming - this resulted in a soaking wet hem on the back of my skirt
Mistake #5: Doing all of this before my trip to the store

Yes, I walked through Albertson's with a skirt that was pretty close to dripping water.
Needless to say, from now on, before I go to the car wash I'll think twice about my attire.

Some Sunshine For Your Day

I wish I were a Glow Worm
A Glow Worm's never Glum
'Cuz how can you be grumpy
When the sun shines out your bum.

Thanks for sharing, Elder Logan :)
